Descrption: The
Cool Creek Trail will run from the Monon west of Ritter's, cross Range
Line, go past Dairy Queen, past Cool Creek Apts., under Keystone Ave.
and along Cool Creek ending at the water tower on 146th Street. Another
spur will head over the creek and lead to the High School athletic fields.
Still another spur, already constructed, connects directly southward to
136th Street behind Arden townhomes. The trail will have an entirely different
feel from the Monon - curvy, even a bit hilly. Carmel will use an historic
former road bridge to cross Cool Creek, an 80' iron Warren Truss structure
relocated from Randolph County, near the point where the electric interurban
railroad bridge used to stand. The route will follow some portion of this
former electric interurban railroad corridor. The interurban route, which
was abandoned in 1938, ran from Indianapolis to Noblesville, then on to
Peru. Abutments of the former bridge are still standing along the banks
of the creek.
