Descrption: The south entrance, from Starkey Nature Park, features a dramatic ascent up a mammoth boardwalk and connects the park's extensive nature trails in the Eagle Creek floodpain to the rail-trail. This southern 1 mile of the rail-trail, also called the Nancy Burton Trail, is limestone but very easy to bike on. Several pleasant picnic spots can be found here, including right atop the bridge over Eagle Creek. The south end traverses deep, old-growth woods and is built upon a massive embankment. The northern 2.5 miles are asphalt. A tunnel under Mulberry St. takes trailgoers to the Spring Knoll neighborhood, Pleasant View Elementary and beyond. The north mile of the trail displays the rustic beauty of Boone County.

The nearby brick-street downtown area of Zionsville is not to be missed. It is surely one of the most well-preserved 19th century villages in the state and features a full spectrum of shops, restaurants, and services. A few of the surrounding roads such as Mulberry St. also feature bike paths.

Manager: Zionsville Parks & Rec

Future Plans: Eagle Township Parks and the Friends of Boone County Trails group are working to connect this trail to Whitestown. There are developments pending which will bring the trail another mile northwest to 800E. Other new trail segments in Lebanon and Thorntown are being planned. Someday perhaps this trail can be extended through these towns and to Lafayette as part of the Farm Heritage Trail proposal. A connection to Indy is also possible along the rail line (which is active south of 96th Street), utility lines, the old interurban corridor, Michigan Road, and the Canal Towpath. Another possible connection point southward is along Eagle Creek.
