are run and supported largely by people like you. Please contact them
to help trail building efforts in your area.
NORTHERN INDIANA
Aboite
New Trails, Inc.
Area: Fort Wayne, Allen County
Projects: Trails in Aboite Twp., west Fort Wayne area. Between 2003
and 2008, the organization raised over $2 million from more than 600
donors in Allen County and $5 million in government and corporate-sponsored
trail projects.
Calumet
Citizens for Connecting Communities
Area: Lake, Porter, LaPorte Counties
Projects: System of bike routes and trails in NW Indiana area counties.
Central
Wabash Region Trails and Greenways
Area: North Central Indiana
Projects: Regional network of trails centered about the Wabash
River including the counties of Howard, Miami, Carroll, Cass, White, Wabash
and Tippecanoe.
Greenway
Consortium
Area: Fort Wayne, Allen County
Projects: Fort Wayne has an extensive trail system along the levees of
its three rivers. This group is working to expand the network outward.
Friends
of the Eel River Trail (Whitley County)
Area: Columbia City, South Whitley
Projects: Friends are working to build what will be known as Whitley County's
Eel River Trail, on a 10+ mile long section of the former Eel River RR
through Whitley County and beyond.

of the Panhandle Pathway
Area: Cass, Pulaski Counties
Projects: Friends are working to build what will become the Panhandle
Pathway, a 21-mile long trail between France Park near Logansport, and
Winamac.

of the Pumpkinvine Nature Trail
Area: Elkhart, Lagrange Counties
Projects: Friends are working to build what will become the Pumpkinvine
Rail-Trail, a 15+ mile long section of the former New York Central RR
branch through Elkart and part of Lagrange County.
Granger
Pathways
Area: Town of Granger, northeast side of South Bend
Projects: Working to build a network of bike paths, primarily along roadsides
in Granger and Harris Township.
Hoosier
Valley Railroad Trail Committee
Area: Starke & Pulaski County; North Judson, Monterey
Projects: Trail group working to develop a 16-mile rail-trail from North
Judson to Monterey, which was railbanked by the Hoosier Valley Railroad
Museum and the Indiana Trails Fund.
Michiana
Watershed, Inc.
Area: South Bend, St. Joseph County
Projects: Rail-trail and river trail projects in the greater South Bend
area
Nickel
Plate Trail, Inc.
Area: Fulton, Miami, Howard Counties
Projects: Trail group working to support development of the Nickel Plate
Trail from Kokomo to Rochester, as well as other connecting trails in
the area. There is also an alternative transportation committee
established for Howard County that meets in Kokomo
(contact Engineering).
Northwest
Allen Trails, Inc.
Area: North side of Fort Wayne, Allen County
Projects: Incorporated trail group working to develop a trail network,
including two new rail-trails on the north side of Fort Wayne.
Steuben
County Trails
Area: Steuben County
Projects: Trails connecting Angola parks, the Breeden YMCA, and Pokagon
State Park, and other trails in Steuben County including the proposed
Upstate Indiana Trail from Pokagon to Fort Wayne.
CENTRAL INDIANA
Friends
of Boone County Trails
Area: Boone County
Projects: Trails and trail networks in Boone County. Focus projects include
a trail from Zionsville to Thorntown (part of the proposed Farm Heritage
Trail), a trail system in the city of Lebanon, and the east-west Midland
Trail from Lebanon to Hamilton County.
Cardinal
Greenways
Area: Grant, Delaware, Randolph, Wayne Counties including cities of Marion,
Muncie & Richmond
Projects: Cardinal Greenway, White River Greenway, other trails in Muncie
& Delaware County area. Ultimately the Cardinal Greenway will be stretch
from Richmond to Muncie to Marion, and also connect to Sweetser. The group's
office is located in the historic Chesapeake & Ohio railroad station
in Muncie on Wysor Street.
Carroll
County Wabash & Erie Canal Inc.
Area: City of Delphi, in Carroll County
Projects: The citizens of Delphi have created a network of short trails
along the Wabash River, the Wabash & Erie Canal, an interurban RR
line, and various town walkways known as the Delphi Historic Trails. The
Canal Interpretive Center at 1030 North Washington St., 11 blocks north
of the courthouse, is the cultural home of the canal and trails initiatives.

Grove Trails
Area: White River Township and Johnson County
Projects: Working toward a trail system centered in White River
Township to connect to local destinations as well as Greenwood and Indianapolis.
Central
Wabash Region Trails and Greenways
Area: North Central Indiana
Projects: Regional network of trails centered about the Wabash
River including the counties of Howard, Miami, Carroll, Cass, White, Wabash
and Tippecanoe.
B&O
Trail Development Association (BOTA)
Area: Marion, Hendricks, Putnam, & Parke Counties (west-central Indiana)
Projects: To build a 64-mile trail on the former Baltimore & Ohio
railroad line from Speedway to Montezuma on the Wabash River.
Frankfort
Association of Community Trails
Area: Clinton County
Projects: Trails connecting areas within Frankfort and outward to surrounding
towns
Friends
of the Midland Trace
Area: Hamilton, Boone County
Projects: Trail along the former Central Indiana/Midland Railroad line
between Westfield and Noblesville, connecting Eagletown, the Monon Trail
and the White River.
National
Road Heritage Trail, Inc.
Area: Vigo, Clay, Putnam, Hendricks, Marion, Hancock, Henry, Wayne Counties
Projects: Supports development of a 150-mile multi-use trail paralleling
the National Road and making use of the Vandalia/Pennsy and electric interurban
rail corridors.
Nickel
Plate Trail, Inc.
Area: Fulton, Miami, Howard Counties
Projects: Trail group working to support development of the Nickel Plate
Trail from Kokomo to Rochester, as well as other connecting trails in

Area: City of Greencastle, Putnam County
Projects: Goal is to enhance the quality of life in Greencastle/Putnam
County by developing a network of multi-use recreational trails, including
support of the National
Road Heritage Trail through the county.
Raintree
Trails of Henry County
Area: Henry County, New Castle area
Projects: Trails in the New Castle/Henry County area including the proposed
Wilbur Wright, Woolly Bear and National Road Heritage Trails.
Speedway
Trails Association
Area: Speedway
Projects: The Greenways Foundation has assisted the Speedway Trails Association
get off the ground. The Association was formed at the suggestion of Ron
Carter, executive director of the Foundation, so that the efforts of a
small group of interested Speedway citizens could more effectively be
focused on building community-side support for the
development of a trails system in Speedway, especially on the abandoned
B&O.
SOUTHERN INDIANA
Dearborn
County Trails
Area: Dearborn County
Projects: Aurora-to-Lawrenceburg Trail and others
Whitewater
Canal Trail, Inc.
Area: Whitewater River Valley in Franklin County
Projects: Whitewater Canal Trail, an 8-mile scenic rail-trail and canal
trail connecting historic Laurel, Metamora and Brookville.
Heritage
Trail of Madison, Inc.
Area: City of Madison, Jefferson County
Projects: Working to build a trail around the city of Madison. Highlights
will include the architecture of Madison, ascending an escarpment &
scenes from above the Ohio River, and descending back into Madison.
Pigeon
Creek Greenway
Area: City of Evansville & Vanderburgh County
Projects: Working to build a greenway system around the city of Evansville
and Vanderburgh County.
INDIANA STATEWIDE
The Greenways
Foundation
Area: statewide
Projects: The GF is a 501-c3 not-for-profit organization that promotes
trails, assists with projects, conducts cleanups and other events. The
GF has been coordinating government and grassroots support for "Hoosiers
on the Move", the visionary plan for over 2000 miles of trail connecting
the state's big and small towns alike.
Hoosier Rails-to-Trails
Council
Area: statewide
Projects: The HRTC is a biking, walking and trail advocacy/lobbying
group. Their expertise is in rail-trail conversions and will
consult with groups seeking advice and assistance in any stage of a project.
Indiana Trails
Fund, Inc.
Area: statewide
Projects: The ITF is a 501-c3 not-for-profit organization that will
hold land, funds and/or develop mostly rustic trails for local groups. Their
objective is to get projects off the ground and usable until they can
be supported locally.
