Descrption:
Scenic, rustic trail which leads from downtown just a little ways into the rolling Sugar Creek Valley, crossing Sugar Creek high over a massive iron bridge with an earthen surface. The trail follows the former Big Four (CCC & St. Louis) or New York Central rail line. Thorntown is one of the best examples left of a genuine, functional, rural Indiana small-town. Quaint houses, majestic old trees, and people of all ages can be found along its quiet, unadorned, gently sloping streets. Traffic barely trickles through its country crossroads and the undisturbed calm is pervasive. Thorntown has very promising potential as an attractive destination for recreational tourists.

Manager:
Town of Thorntown

Future Plans: The Town and Friends of Boone County Trails are working to extend the trail to the south another mile, to Serum Plant Road, where an historic bridge is planned to be placed. As a part of the Farm Heritage Trail, the trail in Thorntown will become an important link between Indianapolis, Lebanon, and Lafayette.
