Description: Follows Pigeon Creek for 1.8 miles east of First Avenue to Heidelbach Canoe Launch. The Esplanade section is along the Ohio River near downtown. The Pigeon Creek Greenway Passage will eventually be a 42 mile pedestrian/bicycle path encircling Vanderburgh County. This trail is scheduled to tie into the American Discovery Trail. Also, surrounding small towns are asking to make trail connections. One of these towns is Poseyville which is home to the Posey Trail project that will cross the Wabash River and go 12 miles into Illinois. The PCG organization has been asked by officials to become a hub for a system of trail services in Southwest Indiana.
The PCG trail will encompass nature trails, historic areas, and art works. It runs through rural areas, commercial centers, and historic residential areas and connects schools, parks, hospitals, libraries with a planned bicycle path through the city of Evansville. It will connect with Wesselman Woods Nature Preserve (an urban woodland park with historic preservation status), museums (two), and Angel Mounds (an ancient Indian site). When New Harmony ties in along Hwy 66 the trail will connect with a restored Harmonist historic city much like Williamsburgh.
