Lewisville / Henry County

In Henry County and eastward the favored route of the NRHT is the unused Pennsy rail corridor, which closely parallels the Historic National Road.  The local not-for-profit Healthy Communities of Henry County has been working for several years to acquire a 10-mile section of this corridor from Knightstown to Lewisville to begin development of their portion of the NRHT.  This process was helped by receipt of a $450,000 Transportation Enhancement grant in 2004.  Healthy Communities is currently working with INDOT and Indiana DNR to complete the transaction.

Lewisville has the potential for a short demonstration trail in the near future, at the eastern end of the 10-mile proposed trail through Henry County.

Open Trail

Currently there are no open trail segments east of Greenfield.

Future Plans

There are plans in Henry County to develop a 10-mile trail from Knightstown to Lewisville. If you live in this area, please voice your support for this trail to public officials, to Healthy Communities of Henry County or contact us
