Greenfield / Hancock County

In Hancock County and eastward the favored route of the NRHT is the unused Pennsy rail corridor, which closely parallels the National Road, on which a trail is planned in Cumberland and an open trail exists in Greenfield.  A significant gap of 4.5 miles exists between Cumberland and Greenfield which is lacking support from county officials.

Open Trail

A 3-mile open trail exists from Greenfield's downtown area to its eastern city limits.

Future Plans

Cumberland plans to develop the trail from German Church Road in Marion County to CR 600W in Hancock County, depending on corridor availability.  This would be the eastern end of the local Pennsy Trail system connected to Indy Greenways.  Greenfield is planning a 1.5 mile extension to its western city limit at Meridian Road.  Currently there are no plans to connect the trail to Henry County to the east, where a 10-mile trail is in the works beginning at Knightstown.
