Descrption:
A quiet, pretty trail which follows the hydraulic canal and connects Shoup
Parsons Woods, Shanklin Park, and the Elkhart County Courthouse. The trail
passes a series of historic foot and vehicle bridges across the canal.
At the south end of the trail is a tree identification trail in Shoup
Parsons Woods. Part of the Maple City Greenway (see map below).
The Maple City Greenway consists of several bike/walking paths throughout
the city, all very well signed and maintained. See a map of the Maple
City Greenway below. Many sidewalks have been attractively widened with
brick to suit both bikers and pedestrians. A loop can be made by using
the Mill Race Trail on the west side, neighborhood streets on the south
side, the Winona Railway Trail and City Center Trail on the east side,
and Clinton Street on the north side. The Pumpkinvine Trail spokes off
toward the northeast to Abshire Park and continues through scenic rolling
farmland, eventually connecting Middlebury and Shipshewana. Despite high
traffic and surrounding sprawl, downtown Goshen is very walkable and rich
with shops and historic buildings.
