1 will be 2.9 miles
Descrption: Phase
1 is a planned rail-trail called the singing Sands Trail from the Laporte/Porter
County Line, where the Calumet Trail currently
ends, to Washington Park nearly 3 miles to the northeast. Once in Washington
Park, the trail would connect users to attractions such as the lake, an
historic lighthouse, and Washington Park Zoo. The second stage of trail
development, named the Lighthouse Trail, would be another rail-trail paralleling
US12 from Washinton Park to the state line.
Future Plans: Phase
2 and 3 will add another 6 miles to the trails. The Monon Trail
to Westville is also a possibility.
