City: Monterey, Ora, North Judson

Endpoints:
West- North Judson
East- Monterey

Trailheads: TBD

Connections:

Activities: TBD

Surface: TBD

Length: 16 miles

Descrption: This is a portion of the former Erie-Lackawanna rail line, split into 2 linked projects. A future trail will accomodate multiple uses, as the double-track right-of-way is wide enough for separated horse, hike, and bike trails. Only a few miles east of Monterey is the city of Rochester, which will be the northern terminus of the 38-mile Nickel Plate Trail. Northwest of North Judson, there are several contiguous trails in the works which could bring trail users all the way into the Calumet region and beyond.

One of the most interesting aspects of this future trail is that it will traverse the transitional region between the Great Lakes, prairie and woodland ecosystems. The Tippecanoe River makes a natural boundary between the Northwest and North Central regions of Indiana, both politically and ecologically.

Manager: Hoosier Valley RR Museum

Future Plans: This trail is a planned segment of the cross-state American Discovery Trail.
